Safety Management Certificate (SMC) is issued to the ship to certify the compliance of the safety management to the ISM code
SMC as DOC is issued on two stages: firstly interim SMC is issued valid of not more than 6 months and then full term is issued upon satisfactory conduction of initial audit valid for not more than 5 years
SMC is subject to the followings audits:
Interim audit: prior to issuance of interim SMC certificate to verify that the ISM system is in place and the company has the potential to soundly implement it
Initial audit: scheduled within the interim certification period to very full compliance with ISM code
Annual audits: at the first, second, third and fourth anniversary dates of the interim audit with a window of 3 months before or after it
Intermediate audit: in the middle of the 5 years loop, but practically shall be carried out with the third annual audit
Renewal audit: at the end of the 5 years certification
